Our company was established in Leicestershire in 1991 by George Borrett (pictured above) and Mark Borrett.
George had a wealth of experience in the trade working on the tools for Bernard Hastie for a number of years and as a supervisor, also teaching City & Guilds at Grantham college.
In fact, he was the oldest lagger in the country with City & Guilds papers because he sat the exams with his students, he thought it was wrong teaching the trade and not having the qualifications himself, as when he came into the trade the exams never existed.
When Hasties was finally amalgamated with Kitsons Contracts he decided to go on his own and started Economic Insulations Services with two partners till 1991.
Mark is time served as a Coppersmith with GEC gas turbines at Whetstone (the test centre of sir Frank Whittle) and later joined Economic Insulations in 1982 working on the tools installing insulation on site and later spent a lot of time measuring jobs for manufacture, and using the sheet metal skills manufacturing for himself to fit and for others to fit, until he had a bad accident on site and totally shattered his right elbow leaving him disabled and unable to perform on site work.
So it was decided in 1991 to start a business together father and son so JD Insulations was born to manufacture the sheet metal cladding this was a struggle with one disabled and one near pensioner it was often laughed about a, recipe for disaster.
Unfortunately George passed away in 1997 at the age of 65 it is so sad many laggers do not live much into retirement.
Since then Mark has run the business with the aid of a good team of valued workmates also with a wealth of experience on site and in the fabrication side, although JD was started as a father and son team, it is still very much a company with family at its core. Marks wife runs personnel and helps to keep the workshop running smoothly and efficiently. The office and administrative duties are taken care of by Marks two daughter, along with his niece. His son works on the shop floor along with the rest of the trusted and skilled team,
In 2009 JD Insulation became JD Insulation Ltd. Since the very first days, Mark has nurtured and encouraged his and his fathers dream to grow, which has greatly helped us reach where we are today. One of the United Kingdoms leading manufactures of Cladding for the insulation trade.
